Darkness hangs upon us
so much broken
strands of fragility
a peace we once knew
now forgotten.
A different place a different time
the cruelty we still cannot comprehend
violence that ought not be possible in
our world and yet the veil is drawn
comments and critics pick the bones of
the carcass of the latest happening.
Then one small act
not random, probably selfish
but a kindness in the midst of the darkness
and a light flickers.
A light of hope born
out of desperation a fragile love
cradled with desire
to see it grow
to see it shared.
