Well, it is lent again…
We had the usual ashing service last night. However, it was peaceful, quiet. Perhaps it was the sparse congregation, it certainly wasn’t the 15 or so in the choir!
I’m not sure what it was, but it was there. At the ashing, a kind of peaceful haze enveloped us all – I say us all, but I haven’t asked others for their sense of the evening. It continued until the end of the service. Was everyone present being extra penitential, or perhaps there was a little something in the air as there was in this post, mole and rat. This is the third little something and this time I was caught unawares, almost with ones ‘proverbial pants down’ Does it happen though, if you are looking for it? or is it always in the surprising places?
