towards the light
We stand and watch what remains of an orange-red glow
Slipping gently through a gap between sea and clouds
Past the edge of the sea as clouds shift to change its final shape.
Our eyes cannot hold its gaze for long.
The infectious silence breaks with a sigh as the last ember winks out
Which betrays our knowing that the sun will rise no more to our cry
Than God will change for our latest whim.
Earth turns in the light and we who stand see the beauty no more
We too must turn and be warmed by the light that continues on.
To wait and to see once again of the beauty and brightness that once delighted us.
Mostly written for those who stood last Monday evening at the west end of the chapel at Nant Gwrtheyrn and watched as the earth rolled onwards into light.ย But also for those who wait with eager longing for the dawn.ย And for those whose lives are spent chasing the setting sun.ย And for those who know how to wait.
